Univision Historia

Time Warner Cable Prepares Hispanic Households for the Digital TV Transition

Educational campaign provides valuable information on the DTV
transition to ensure consumers don’t go dark after midnight on June 12,
2009

LOS ANGELES, May 27 /PRNewswire/ — June 12, 2009 is the deadline for
the digital transition as set by the U.S. Congress whereby all TV stations
will only transmit signal in digital format. To help answer the many
questions the transition to digital television (DTV) raises, Time Warner
Cable, an industry leader and second-largest cable operator in the U.S.,
continues its comprehensive educational campaign called “Enterate y
Conectate/Get Informed, Stay Connected” to help inform and prepare the
Hispanic community for the DTV transition. Through this campaign, Time
Warner Cable wants to ensure the community stays connected and doesn’t go
dark when the transition takes place. Time Warner Cable is committed to
providing the right information to help the community make an informed
decision that will prepare them for the DTV transition.

“We know there’s a lot of information on DTV and it can be
overwhelming. At Time Warner Cable, we want to provide straight answers to
consumers’ questions to help make the process easier to understand,”
commented Stephen Pagano, Executive Vice President for Time Warner Cable
West Region. “The DTV transition will affect everyone and we realize that
there are many households still unclear about the digital transition. This
campaign equips the community with extensive information from experts in
the field, educating them in a unique and uncomplicated friendly manner so
that they may make a well-informed personal decision on the DTV
transition.”

Over the next 20 days, Time Warner Cable will reach out to the
community through its educational campaign to provide free, bilingual
community forums at various Walmart locations throughout Southern
California. Time Warner Cable has partnered with Eduardo Quezada, known in
the USA Spanish speaking world for his more than 30 years of broadcasting
news, to become an Ambassador in support of the campaign. He will lead the
community educational forums along with other industry experts such as Jose
Ulloa, the “Latino Cyberguy,” that will provide key information regarding
the digital transition and how it will impact households. Consumers will
have an opportunity to learn about the options and steps to take to
continue enjoying their favorite programs and channels. The information
will continue to be provided in Spanish and English to help ensure
consumers are well aware of how they will be affected and what steps are
needed to ensure they are DTV-ready. This campaign is a continuation of an
earlier campaign that started in December 2008, it continues across
Southern California starting in major divisions of Los Angeles County to
Orange County.

Locally, the Time Warner Cable L.A. Region serves approximately 1.9
million customers in the five counties of southern California. Although,
these Time Warner Cable customers are DTV-ready, as long as their
televisions are connected to the service, there are still many households
not ready for the digital switch. The Time Warner Cable “Enterate y
Conectate/Get Informed Stay Connected” campaign addresses consumers
concerns and provide the right information to help consumers make the best
decision as they prepare for the DTV transition.

Eduardo Quezada Escandon editorial

PBS and Ken Burns ignored the role played by Hispanic Americans in the World War II documentary The War , yes in the war they were all Americans, but if they were “all americans” why were many latinos, like my uncle, discriminated against when they returned home. They had to face segregation and exclusion when it came to using bathrooms, some were denied entry to restaurants. I have been told ugly stories about how they excluded mexican children from using public pools. How about the Zoot Suit story.? No, I am not bitter, I am just amazed at this type of incidents. If not PBS, then who is going to tell the story about our soldiers. Yes, we are all americann, but I want to see the war stories with faces that resemble my uncles and other relatives that fought in the war. “History belongs to the victors” but in this case the victors did not belong to just one race, please include them all, so our children can continue to be proud of our ancestor’s contributions for a better America.
